Colossal lion at the N E Foot Hymettus

Edward Dodwell
1819

A hand-coloured etching designed by Edward Dodwell (1767-1832) and etched by Charlie Heath (1785-1848), titled “Colossal lion at the N.E. foot Hymettus” depicts a giant marble lion statue situated in the countryside whilst two Greeks dressed in traditional costume discus beside it. The print came from a copy of the book “A Classical and Topographical Tour Through Greece: during the years 1801, 1605 and 1806, Vol I”, published by Rodwell & Martin.
