A hand-coloured woodcut print designed by an unidentified artist signed N.D. and carved by the French master wood engraver Charles Laplante (1837-1903), Titled “PEASANTS FROM THE ENVIRONS OF ATHENS” from Reclus Elisée’s (1830-1905) book “The Earth and its Inhabitants: Europe (Volume 1)”. Published by D. Appleton & Co. The print shows two women spinning yarn, while dressed in the regional attire of Attica, Greece and a man smoking a pipe in traditional clothing and a Fustanella.
