Elephant Bird Egg

Madagascar
Pre-1260 CE

A national history specimen of a re-constructed egg from the extinct Elephant Bird (Aepyornis Maximus). The egg was assembled using eggshells that have been collected in Madagascar (probably in the 1900s) and is made of eggshells originating from more than one egg.

Elephant birds were massive, flightless birds that were once endemic to the island of Madagascar until they went extinct around 1260 CE.
