Bronze Mirror
Nishamura Bungojo(?), Yoshikatsu(?)
16th-19th century
An antique Japanese bronze cast mirror depicting two chrysanthemum flowers on a background of raised dots. On the left-hand side, the mirror is marked in relief as “Tenkaichi Nishimura, Yoshikatsu” “天下一西村吉勝”. The honorific title of “Tenkaichi” translates to “First under heaven”, meaning "best in the world."
The mirror was likely made by the mirror master, Nishamura Bungojo, with help from Yoshikatsu.
