A set of three books making up the first volume of the novel “Shunsoku Tatasumi no Sono”(Spring Colours: The Southeast Garden) (Vol.1 no.1-3) written by Tamenaga Shunsui (Pen name of name Sasaki Sadataka (1790-1844), illustrated by Utagawa Kuninao (1793-1854) and printed by the publisher Maekawa Bun'eidō. This book is a continuation of Shunsoku’s work “Shushoku umegoyomi” (Spring Colours: The Plum Calendar).
The covers, which are in poor condition, show porcelain cups and saucers rendered in a discoloured Prussian blue while its title cartouche is now a faded red. Vol.1 no.1 has 3 pages printed in shades of blue (Aizuri-e) with secondary colours of red and yellow. Each numbered book has a different number of pages, no.1-44 pages, no.2-34 pages, no-3-37 pages.
