Novelty Propaganda Under Kimono (Omoshirogara Nagajuban)

A Omoshirogara (novelty design) “Propaganda” nagajuban (under-kimono) with a hand-stencilled pattern consisting of several elements like roundels, rectangular postcards/pictures(?), overlapped objects and smoke bands that form horizontal bands loaded with nationalistic symbols.


Details in the kimono reference the contemporary achievements of japan such as new technologies, the rise of tourism and the upcoming 1940 Tokyo Olympics.
