Hoi An Hoard Blue and White Bowl
Vietnam
ca. 1450-1500
A Vietnamese Blue and White Bowl recovered from the Hoi An Hoard shipwreck. The bowl is decorated on its base with a petal pattern while its rim has a geometric band. A second band and a central six-petaled flower are also present on the inside of the bowl. The bowl has a generous coating of transparent glaze with craquelure. The cobalt glaze on the piece dripped and ran during this transparent coating and firing process.
The bottom of the piece has a brown glaze with a 'HOI AN HOARD' label and a second barcode label on the side identifying the bowl as coming from lot number 75265.
