Export Brooch with Jade Phoenix

Setting: ca.1912-49 (Republic period)
A hand-carved white jade phoenix set in a silver filigree brooch. The frame (hallmarked SILVER) is decorated with enamelled petals in cobalt, turquoise, and lilac colouring.
Originally set in a Qing dynasty hair ornament, the phoenix was re-purposed into a brooch when it was sold on the Western market following the fall of the Qing empire in 1911.
