Export Brooch with Jadeite Flower

Jadeite Carving: 19th century (Qing dynasty)
Setting: ca.1912-49 (Republic period)
A hand-carved green jadeite flower with the Chinese character "命" (Life) in its centre, set in a silver filigree brooch. The frame (hallmarked SILVER).
The jadeite flower was originally set into traditional Qing dynasty hair ornament jewellery but was re-purposed into its current brooch setting to be sold in the Western market after the fall of the Qing empire and during the Republic period.
