Ca Mau Blue and White 'Peacock' Saucer

A ribbed porcelain saucer, hand painted with a central medallion showing a peacock standing on a rock with peonies, surrounded with twelve segmented panels containing alternating landscapes and flowers. The base of the saucer is decorated with two flowering branches.
The object was a part of the merchandise discovered onboard the Ca Mau Shipwreck in the South China Sea. The Chinese junk ship was on route from Canton (Guangzhou) to the Dutch trading port of Batavia (Jakarta), before catching fire and sinking.
