Wakashu with Falcon

Japan
ca. 1804-1806

A male youth stands holding a falcon in one hand whilst looking over his shoulder. His hair is styled in a topknot with long side locks and shaved crown, which signified the transition from early childhood into formal education or apprenticeship had taken place.
